FAQ about Natto powder

There are two types of natto powder: normal and mild. What is the difference?

There is no significant difference in the nutrients and amount of natto bacteria. The mild version has less smell and viscosity because we use a different bacteria strain.
We recommend “natto powder normal” (navy blue label) to people who enjoy natto aroma and flavor. Natto powder mild (light blue label) is better for people who want a less potent natto aroma product. Choose according to your preferences.

One spoonful of natto powder contains billions of natto bacteria. The amount is large, but these bacteria are a nutritional component of natto. More important than quantity is continuity, to get better results consume natto powder daily.

What is the best way to store the natto powder after opening the bag? How long does it last after opening?

Food deteriorates quickly in contact with oxygen and humidity. For this reason, we recommend consuming our products as soon as possible after opening, keeping the bag tightly sealed, and carefully checking moisture absorption.
You can also put the powder in a refillable bottle or airtight container.
If the environment is not humid, you can store the powder at room temperature. However, it is more stable if you preserve it in the refrigerator.

What kind of manufacturing method is freeze-drying?

It is a method that uses ultralow temperature and vacuum to remove moisture from food.
The loss of moisture in food prevents the growth of microorganisms, helping its preservation.
Also, unlike high-heat drying, freeze-drying preserves food nutrients and flavor. You can enjoy natto flavor, aroma, and nutrients in all our products.

What are non-GMO soybeans?

GMO stands for a genetically modified organism. A genetically modified soybean is a soybean that has had DNA introduced into it using genetic engineering techniques.
Japan imports more than 90% of soybeans from the United States and China, primarily GMOs. Those GMO soybeans are modified to stand high doses of herbicides and pesticides, increasing the risk of carrying toxins and carcinogens into our bodies.
We consider that natural soybeans, cultivated without chemicals, are the best option for supporting health. For this reason, we solely use non-GMO soybeans in all our products. The variety of our soybeans is Fukuyutaka, cultivated in Saga Prefecture, a region famous for its pristine air, clean water, and delicious agricultural products.

I heard it’s not good to heat natto. What about natto powder? Can I sprinkle it on warm rice or heat it?

There is no problem with sprinkling natto powder on hot rice and eating it.
The reason for recommending not to heat natto or put on hot rice is because the heat destroys the nattokinase enzyme.
Enzymes are sensitive to heat, and nattokinase disappears when heated at 65 ° C for 1 hour.
However, Bacillus subtilis (natto probiotics) and vitamins are not affected at all. In general, cooking destroys some nutritional components of any food.
In the case of regular natto and natto powder, it is better not to heat them if you do not want to destroy the nattokinase. However, natto powder preserves other nutrients even if heated. In general, you do not need to worry about the loss of nutrients due to cooking.
