FAQ about Natto powder capsules
- When and how should I take the capsules?
The natto powder inside the capsules is made from 100% pure natto, ensuring the highest quality and health benefits. You can take the capsules with cold or lukewarm water at any time of day, depending on your schedule and preference.
For best results, we recommend a daily intake of 3 capsules at a fixed time, which helps create a consistent routine and reduces the chance of forgetting. Many of our customers prefer taking the capsules after dinner or before going to bed, making them an easy addition to their evening routine.

We only use domestically grown soybeans, cultivated without chemical pesticides or fertilizers, ensuring safety and sustainability.Traditional Craftsmanship
Skilled artisans, inheriting 70 years of traditional fermentation techniques, meticulously process soybeans to create high-quality natto.Advanced Processing Method
To retain the nutritional content and active natto bacteria, our natto is freeze-dried and powdered using a special method. The final product contains no additives—just 100% pure ingredients, encapsulated for convenience.- How long does it take to feel results?
The time it takes to notice results can vary from person to person due to differences in diet, lifestyle, physical condition, and constitution. Because of these individual factors, it’s difficult to specify an exact timeline for noticeable effects.
However, the key to achieving results is consistent daily intake. Taking the product every day as recommended gives your body the best chance to experience the benefits over time. Patience and regular use are essential for optimal outcomes.
- Is it better to take the three capsules separately throughout the day, for example, morning, noon, and evening, or all at once?
Either approach works! The effectiveness and potency of the product remain the same whether you take the capsules separately in the morning, noon, and evening or all at once at a specific time.
That said, many users find it easier to remember their daily dosage by taking all three capsules at once, such as before dinner or as part of their evening routine. Splitting the dosage may increase the chance of forgetting, so the key is to choose a schedule that ensures consistent daily intake. Continuity is what matters most!
- Can I use this product if I am taking medication?
If you are currently taking medication, undergoing treatment for an illness, or using anticoagulants (such as warfarin), we recommend consulting your family physician before using our product.
Additionally, if you have been advised to avoid eating natto for medical reasons, it is essential to seek professional medical advice before starting. Your doctor can provide guidance based on your specific health condition.
- Can I take dietary supplements during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
We recommend taking a break from health supplements during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as these are delicate times for your body. Instead, focus on maintaining a balanced and healthy diet tailored to your needs, and consult your family physician for personalized guidance and support.
- What is the difference between natto powder capsules and nattokinase supplements?
The key difference lies in the composition:
- Natto Powder Capsules
Our capsules contain freeze-dried, whole natto, preserving all the nutrients found in natto. This includes an increased quantity of probiotics, vitamins, minerals, and enzymes like nattokinase. By consuming the entire natto, you benefit from its complete nutritional profile. - Nattokinase Supplements
These supplements only contain nattokinase, a proteolytic enzyme produced by Bacillus natto during fermentation. While nattokinase is beneficial, it is just one component of natto.
With Sonomono’s natto powder capsules, you get all the nutrients of natto, including nattokinase in its natural proportion.
- Natto Powder Capsules
- Do Sonomono Natto Capsules contain nattokinase? How much is in each capsule?
Yes, Sonomono Natto Capsules contain nattokinase, which is naturally produced during the fermentation of soybeans into natto.
The nattokinase enzymatic activity in Sonomono natto powder is 98 FU/g, as certified by The Japan Food Research Laboratories. Please note that this value may vary slightly due to natural differences in the fermentation process.
Since each capsule contains pure natto powder with all its nutrients, including nattokinase, you are benefiting from a complete and natural source of natto’s health-promoting properties.
- I heard that Vitamin K worsens blood circulation. Is it true?
This is a common misunderstanding. The concern typically arises from the advice to avoid eating natto while taking the anticoagulant warfarin, which is often linked to blood circulation.
Warfarin works by inhibiting the action of Vitamin K, as it has a similar molecular structure. When both are taken together, the effect of warfarin may be weakened, potentially affecting its efficiency in thinning the blood.
However, it’s important to note that Vitamin K itself does not worsen circulation. In fact, it plays a crucial role in blood clotting and is an essential nutrient for your overall health. The issue arises only when warfarin and Vitamin K interact, which is why individuals on warfarin should consult their physician before consuming natto or other high-Vitamin K foods.
- Is it harmful to take too much natto bacteria?
Bacillus subtilis var. natto, the bacteria responsible for fermenting soy into natto, is a probiotic or beneficial bacteria. This resilient microorganism is highly adaptable in spore form, capable of surviving extreme temperatures (100℃ or 212℉) for short periods and withstanding gastric acid, allowing it to reach the intestines alive.
B. subtilis var. natto works by supporting other beneficial bacteria like lactic acid bacteria and bifidobacteria, while also helping to reduce harmful intestinal bacteria. Even if you consume larger amounts of Bacillus subtilis var. natto, it will simply pass through the intestines and be excreted in the stool after completing its life cycle.
Therefore, there is no need to worry about overconsumption. However, we recommend adjusting your natto powder capsule intake based on your physical condition and consulting with a healthcare professional if you have any concerns.

- Are the bacteria in your products genetically modified (GMO) or natural?
At Sonomono, we have zero tolerance for the use of GMOs. The natto bacteria in our products are 100% natural, treasured for over 70 years.
We are committed to ensuring that all our ingredients, including the bacteria, are natural and free from any genetic modification, so you can trust the purity and authenticity of our products.
- I hear that taking too much soy isoflavones is not good, but is that okay?
According to Japanese national guidelines, the safe upper limit for soy isoflavone intake is 30 mg per day (soy isoflavone aglycone equivalent).
A survey by the Japan Food Research Laboratories found that natto contains about 0.54 mg of soy isoflavones per 0.42 g of natto. Even with a daily intake of three Sonomono natto powder capsules, the total soy isoflavone content is only 1.62 mg, well within the safe intake limits.
Please note that the national guidelines are based on “food for specified health use”, and sonomono natto is not classified under this category. This information should be used as a reference, not as a strict regulation for our product.
As always, it’s best to consult with your healthcare provider if you have concerns about your soy isoflavone intake.
- Is it true that natto contains high quantities of purines?
We have not specifically analyzed the purine content of our natto powder, but based on various sources, the average purine content of raw natto is 113.9 mg per 100g.
According to the Hyperuricemia/Gout Treatment Guidelines, foods are classified based on their purine content per 100g as follows:
- 300 mg or more – Extremely high
- 200-300 mg – High
- 50-100 mg – Low
- 50 mg or less – Very low
With 113.9 mg of purines per 100g, raw natto falls into the “low purine content food” category.
For our Sonomono natto powder (1.26g per three capsules), the purine content is estimated to be very low, well within the recommended limits for people with concerns about purine intake, such as those managing hyperuricemia or gout.
For more detailed guidelines, you can refer to the official Hyperuricemia/Gout Treatment Guidelines and Gout Foundation websites (in Japanese):

http://www.tufu.or.jp/gout/gout4/447.html- What is the material of the capsules?
The capsules used in our Sonomono Natto Powder products are made from hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC), a plant-derived material. HPMC is a widely recognized safe food additive, tasteless and odorless, and is derived from cellulose, the main component of plant fiber.
Please note that the capsules also contain soy lecithin, which is considered an allergen for some individuals. If you have a soy allergy, it’s important to consider this when deciding to use the product.
- What is the capsule size?
We use No. 1 size capsules, with approximate dimensions of 20 mm x 7 mm. These capsules are designed to hold the right amount of natto powder while remaining easy to swallow.
- Where are the soybeans used as raw material produced?
We use chemicals-free cultivated soybeans from Kohoku Town, located in Saga Prefecture, Kyushu. The soybeans are of the “Fukuyutaka” variety, a rare domestic type that is especially suited for natto production due to its plumpness and high quality.
Please note that the soybean production area may change due to natural disasters or other unforeseen factors.
